Interview Karim Bettache and Peter Beattie
Karim Bettache and Peter Beattie interviewed me about my ideas about racism. They are both professors at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. They research, study and teach the psychological and legal side of racism and colonialism. They also wanted to know how I developed my ideas about racism over the course of my life. In particular how I make the connections with my childhood in a colonial situation in which suddenly an occupation took place by another power. They also asked what lessons I had learned about racism from my father W.F. Wertheim, professor of sociology in Southeast Asia.
Before the two part interview started, I told the interviewers that my English is not that good and I asked Karim, who speaks Dutch very well, if he would help me if I couldn't translate a concept into English. And so it happened.
